SEVENOAKS, England, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A 70-year-old British woman who hasn't cut her hair since 1953 says she may go back on her private promise to finally cut her locks on turning 70.

Jean Burgess of Sevenoaks, near London, said she vowed 55 years ago never to cut her hair again after seeing herself with short hair in photographs.

I wish the article had a pic of her! Five and a half feet of hair. That's really fascinating how she couldn't bring herself to cut her hair because she'd already gone so long without cutting it.

Five and a half feet of hair.

I bet she could go out as Cousin IT for Halloween.

Yeah, no kidding ^^^^!

I hate articles like that with such a NEED for pics, and no pics!

I used to want my hair like that, when I was little. Now I don't like the way it looks. I like long hair but no longer than waist length or it just looks excessive.

I am thinking of letting mine grow again after coming across some pics from when my youngest was a baby where it was around waist length. I cut it chin length 5 years ago and it hasn't been past the shoulders since then.

Nobody with hair that long has attractive hair. I've also noticed that almost everyone who has super long hair always wears it in a bun. Where's the joy in that? If I could have nice hair down to the middle of my back, I would. I have fine hair, so it doesn't even look good shoulder length. Oh, well. Anyway, her long her got her her 15 minutes of fame, so it definitely served some purpose, I suppose.

I have fine hair too, and I am torn on keeping it short or letting it grow.

When it was long (longest was waist length) I kept it up in a ponytail all the time, and that was one of the reasons I cut it. It seemed pointless to have long hair in a perpetual ponytail.

It needed frequent trimming to avoid looking scraggly... yet on the other hand when I did have it down and it was nicely trimmed it looked nice and I liked it... in winter anyway.

Lately I'm craving it "long" again. I guess because I came across some old photos the other day and had forgotten just how long it was.

Default Rapunzel

I think that if Rapunzel ( from the fairy tale) was shown as an older person, this lady is what she would look like.

omg, just looked at the pic. Do ya'll remember Crystal Gayle? Oh yeah, she had hair down to her feet! Gorgeous hair but then after she cut it YEARS after letting it grow so long, she cut it due to severe back pain and malformations due to the weight of the hair. Yeah, long hair is fun and all but a real pain - literally! I just lopped off about 5 inches of my hair, it's so shiny and bouncy now, I love it!
