Hi: Was thinking of maybe moving to Williamsburg and looking for work in Richmond. Bigger city, more jobs maybe? Anyway, does anyone know how bad the commute is? Thanks

We are looking at doing the same when we move to VA. This past October we drive it during rush hour and the drive was about an hour and not really bad. I also have a friend who drove from Yorktown to Richmond every day for a year and though he didn't care for it, said it wasn't too bad.

I guess if the job is worth it, 1 hour isn't horrible. Thanks for the input.

It depends on the exact locations. If you live northwest/west of Williamsburg proper in James City County, and the job is east of Richmond, north of Richmond, or downtown, the commute would be fine. The West End of Richmond and the South Side take longer to get to, and would be especially bad if you lived in the eastern portion of Williamsburg.

I would give living in Richmond a chance. There are some very nice areas, and they are more affordable than Williamsburg. I do like Williamsburg and used to live there, but I wouldn't want to deal with that commute, especially with today's gas prices.

I've thought about Richmond but I wanted to live closer to the beach and Norfolk and VA Beach seem like there are young couples with little ones and I'm over 50 and an empty nester so I thought Williamsburg might be more "age appropriate" for me. (?) Thanks for your input.
