I strongly disagree with running along 64, though. ODU has over 20,000 students and thousands of employees. It makes no sense to cut them out when, although it might be more difficult, we can connect both them AND the naval base.

Another solution that should be looked at is extending it on the already existing tracks in Portsmouth. The new line in the middle of 164 removes trains from the tracks starting by 664 and Bruce Road. It goes right through Western Branch (by the bowling alley) and Churchland (where the new Harris Teeter is going up)

If we then include it in the new Midtown Tunnel tube, that connects a significant part of the area and gets us our first water crossing without having to build it all from scratch.

I just hope somebody in Portsmouth will wake up before they do what they've proposed doing which is to REMOVE the tracks and put in a walking path. I seriously doubt it, though. Even with Holley out of office, Portsmouth still is inept when it comes to making good decisions.
Good points.

I never see that many people in the HOV, but if it can get a few cars off of the road ... Cheapest, most practical options seem to be utilize whatever train paths already exist. From there implement rail in any new tunnel/bridge construction plans. Finally use eminent domain to get The Tide off of well traveled path into the neighborhoods. That is when you will have a true fight on your hands; things will be very interesting at that point.

We took the LR from Newtown to go out to eat again this weekend. The Newtown was a lot fuller than last time, and the train was actually crowed. Thing is there was a man with really bad body odor on the train. Myself and several others were coughing and gagging. It was really bad. I think it'll be awhile before we ride again LOL.

So if you encountered a bad homeless person in NYC or DC would you hold off visiting for a few decades?

Natives in HR are absurd. They should really walk around some of the slums in Ohio for a change. Then perhaps they would stop b* about towns like Newport News and realize how blessed Virginia is. Or whatever.

They don't get out much around here so chances are yes, they wouldn't go back because they'd be too scarred.

He wasn't homeless just smelly, but it reminded me you never know who you'll run into on public transportation. My family is safer in my car. I personally like the safeness of the area, and snarky comments or not I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Typical HR xenophobia.

I don't think it's an unreasonable fear. Have you ever been a crime victim? It's not all it's cracked up to be.

Bonus points for the big word though.
