North East Suffolk is the best kept secret in Hampton Roads. It's nice here the homes are nice and the area is great. I have access to everything yet I sit on my Balcony and watch deer feed right in front of my house. The mall and tons of shopping is 10 min. away. I live in Kempton Park which is great we have a pool and a park just for the residents. The schools out here are good although the statistics do not show it. My kids go to schools in Suffolk so I see the results. I don't depend on the statistics. They are building around us so the future looks bright for re-sale. As far as dollar per square footage the best bet is this area. Most of the homes are Newer. Home in my neighborhood go for the low 300's and the smallest one is about 2200 sq ft. I have noticed that you can get more house if you purchase a home already built instead of New construction. I think the builders think it's still 2002. So come on out and join us.

How far is to Hampton? That's were my husband will be working. What is the names of the High School and Middle School there? Is there an area with 1 acre + lots? In or under the price you said?

cathyfla, those homes will be in a subdivision, depending on where they are, may have a large lot, but probably not an acre+. It is a nice area in Northern Suffolk, and the commute to hampton won't be too bad. Check the schools in that area out on GreatSchools.net

The High School is Nansemond River for most of that area of Suffolk. The middle School would be John Yeates. The commute to Hampton would be about 25- 35 minutes depending on time and where in Hampton he is commuting to. There are a few homes with 3/4 acre and larger lots in North Suffolk currently for sale in the low $300k price range. Kempton Park lots are normally around .15 of an acre.

Default Mr Williamsburg

Hey -

You know the area pretty well.
I graduated from Yeates when it was a high school
My niece was the first graduating class of Nansemond River HS.
She is now a Chemist (PhD - Physical Chemistry)

We just looked at kempton park, it is the best!! Seems like u don't even need to leave ur neighborhood for anything...huge park, lake to fish in, playgrounds, block parties, friday night concerts in park, and perfect family homes...I have not heard any negative comments at all. And do not go by the school statistics at all!!! Everyone says Nansemond is the best best best!!! Good Luck.

Actually, this year, King's Fork's SOL test scores beat Nansemond River and Lakeland.

Suffolk gets a lot of bad oress, mostly because it is more diverse, but it is a great place to live.

I have a 2200 sf ranch for sale 1 mile from NR (it's actually in the KF district) for under 300 grand if anybody's interested.

Probably about 30-40 minutes, a lot depends on the traffic. I used to work at Bass Pro Shops in the summer and it usually took about 20-25 minutes.
