Why can't we get anyone decent to perform in Hampton Roads? Brandy and R Kelly are coming here, and I guess that is okay, but forget about any major artists like Taylor Swift. I don't even like Taylor Swift, but it'd be nice to know that she would come to Hampton Roads.

Man, it is better there than where I live in Charleston, Sc. At least there is an Ampitheatre there, the Norva, and the venue at the park in Portsmouth - I think it is called the Teles Theatre or something like that. There are lots of shows there in Tidewater!

A lot of shows play at The Ted now, but a lot of artists bypass the area because there's really only that and the Amphitheater, which is only good for spring and summer months.

Scope is old and too small, although Stevie Wonder had a special concert for Obama last week. Even the arena at UVA is getting more acts because it's bigger than Scope. All the more reason why VB should approve a new arena.

This year has been really dry, which is a shame. Norva isn't pulling anything too interesting. We're hurtin'.

The last big show I went to here was Black Eyed Peas. There are big name acts that come here including Dave Matthews Band. I think right now the economy is in a down turn though, and a lot of tours have been scaled back to large stadiums. Yet another reason for VA Beach to build the new stadium.

My sister who lives in Raleigh says they too haven't had many big name acts this year so I agree it must be the economy. They usually get some pretty good acts there.

Um, for people talking about space, Brandy is performing at... Willett Hall.

As for HR not getting many big names, it's because of location. Big names will be performing in DC and Charlotte. The thought is anyone from here wanting to see them will travel to one of those locations. The times we do get the big names, ala Elton John, is when they have an extra day when they are between two locations (like DC and Charlotte.) Nobody is going to make a special trip here but if they have a little extra time in their schedule and are traveling between the larger cities some will make a quick detour.

What are you talking about? I've seen Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kiss, Marshall Tucker, all at the Scope in Norfolk. Oh wait, that was like, 1974....never mind.

Well, I thought it was different, since I grew up in Tidewater, I went to many cool concerts back at Hampton Coliseum , and the Boathouse! What has happened , the music scene was great in Tidewater when I grew up! The music man in Norfolk, the Boathouse, The Atlantic Beach Club @ 25th st at Va. Beach I grew up watching Thrash bands play there, Gang Green, Grog, Reign of Terror, and I think I even saw Kreator at Waterside in some bar there like 15 years ago!
Charleston really doesn't have much of a grand music scene and I thought Tidewater was better, but I am learning from you all.

Here's a flash from the Past that I grew up with:
