What kind of volunteering work does Hampton Roads need? (real estate, neighborhoods)

I know this forum is usually about real estate and neighborhoods and stuff but this is the best place I thought of to ask this. Me and a group of friends were thinking about starting a volunteering organization but we don't know what Hampton Roads needs most. We want to be a part of a solution or at least the next best thing. Is there anything at all that comes to mind when you think about what Hampton Roads needs?

Mentoring. That is one thing that could make a huge difference in Hampton Roads.

I came upon this thread just now, but maybe you will still find this info useful. Try volunteermatch.org and limit it to Hampton Roads or to a specific city in HR. There are a number of organizations that help people who are homeless. It was an eye-opener for me to learn about how many people in this area just completely fall on hard times here due to injuries, unforeseen family situations, downsizing due to a limited economy, and other reasons for the loss of their jobs. Many of the organizations help people find new jobs, teach them how to budget with what they have on hand, and give them some transitional access to temporary housing and household goods until they can get back on their feet again. They are looking for all kinds of skills in volunteers.
