Our company is moving several Japanese families to the lower Maryland area, not too far from the Naval Air station. Are there any other Japanese families or groups they can connect with? Thank you for any information you can provide.

If you mean lower Maryland area as in the eastern shore it's at least a 2 hour drive. DC is closer and Baltimore is about the same distance from the VA/MD line to Chesapeake. Do you know where exactly in Maryland? I'm not sure Chesapeake is close enough to warrant seeking out contacts.

I think it's even worse than that -- the only NAS I know of in MD is Patuxent River ("Pax River"), which is 3.5 hours away from Chesapeake in no traffic. The only "Chesapeake" that's near Pax River is the bay; neither Chesapeake VA nor Chesapeake City MD are particularly close to the NAS.

I think the OP is confusing the city of Chesapeake with the Bay of Chesapeake.

As a courtesy, I have posted your inquiry in another forum Life in Southern Maryland
which is focused specifically on the NAS Patuxent River area. (Saint Mary's County, MD).

In a couple of days, click on the link above, and read any responses to your question.

As I stated on the other thread, there is the Washington Japanese Language School, which is the area weekend school http://www.wjls.org/

Maybe they know some answers to your questions
