Hey guys! I am very excited about my visit to the area . Next year, I will be looking into moving to this area and thought it would be a good idea to actually check it out. My boyfriend and I will be coming down someday between July 1- July 3rd.

So here is where I need your help !!
Where do you think would be good places to look at when down there? Anyting exciting, worthwhile. Keep in mind this is only a day trip, and we've never been to the area so traveling will be limited to one day. Otherwise, we are open to any ideas.

Thank you all for your help, I love reading your thoughts!

Festevents - Welcome

Check out this link, it will be a good guide to the norfolk area. Also Virginia Is For Lovers: Vacation in Virginia may help.

If you find out which day the Norfolk city fireworks are, I HIGHLY recommend viewing them from the harbor on a boat... about 1 hour long just after dark and SPECTACULAR!
Good luck.

Default Norfolk or Portsmouth

I second jballa's suggestion. Also, try to check out the Freemason neighborhood of downtown Norfolk. It's a great place to walk around to see the beautiful architecture of the buildings. Old Towne Portsmouth (just a ferry ride across the river from downtown Norfolk...costs $1.25 per person one way I think) is also a fun place to visit for just a day trip. They have nice restaurants, a new microbrewery, and a nice walk along the river. Walking among the old houses in Old Towne is beautiful, too.

Its nice to visit Norfolk, but in my opinion, its nice to LIVE in Suffolk. Much more layed back, etc. Norfolk for the night life, museums, etc. and traffic.
