I walked through the new Harrisburg Univ. building in the Harrisburg CBD. It is stunning and an interesting design..a vertical campus that discourages elevator use. If you have time you should take a walk through. The views are also stunning. An employee told me that the university will expand to the post office site just east of the Amtrack station if enrollment continues to grow. The technology is impressive. I did not even know it exists. A professor can walk while lecturing using an handheld device and transfer notes to the overhead.

Thanks for posting about my school

It's a really exciting time to be going to school at HU. The new building is great. The dedication ceremony is tomorrow at 4:30 and 700 local business professionals, business leaders, education leaders and government officials are expected to attend.

It really is a great school...literally every one in my program as gotten an internship through the school, and some have full-time jobs...pretty amazing especially with this economy. If anybody is looking to further their knowledge especially in the area of science and technology they should really check out the school.

The original plan was to build a campus on the post office site but I believe Mayor Reed wanted to build an iconic high-rise for the University at Fourth and Market (after "The Residence" project which would have included condos and office space fell through) to serve as a flagship building for years to come. In about five years time HU will move forward with building a bigger campus along Market street by the post office but the current building will serve for now along with classroom and lab space on the third floor of Strawberry Square. While there is currently no official on-campus housing, most students from outside the area live in the nearby International House which provides housing for students attending college in the area.

Here's a few pictures of inside and outside the new HU academic center:

And finally, conceptual vision of what the new campus might look like:
