I suggest you get down to you local pet shop and find out the size of approved IATA kennel that will accomodate your dog. You will need for the pet to go inside the kennel so you can make sure it can stand and turn around as thats what the airlines will want to see happen for that size animal before they accept it for transport. You will probably need at least a 700 and maybe even larger. Next contact the airlines you plan on using and see if they can accept a kennel that size on their scheduled flights. If they say no, you will probbaly have to use one of the cargo only carriers. If thats the case, you will have additional planning needs at LAX and their scheuled don;t always work well with typical passenger scheduled flight making for some extra travel steps or the need for someone to deal with the dog in CA on your behalf.

Dont know about all the airlines but I do know United will only fly dogs and kennel with a total weight of 150lbs, I think the other airlines may follow those same guidelines as well. So, a cargo shipment might be the way you will have to go. Unless, you do one of those charter flights some people talk about. Good luck.

If you're looking at Oahu, I know that The Waterfront at Puuloa in Ewa Beach allows large dogs. This is a demilitarized housing base, and for $3k, you can get an upgraded 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house on the beach. Now, Ewa isn't the best commute ever, but it's not impossible and if you're needing something for your family, including your dog- it's at least looking into. My husband and I lived there and made some really great friends. We have two dogs, and that was one of the only places we could find that would take pets- and ours are only 30 pounds each. Good luck with your search!
