We had to pay Helco (that's the electric company on the Island of Hawaii aka "the Big Island") $100 for an electrical deposit. Dunno if that's an island difference or a house verses apartment difference. I think they keep it for a year and then credit it to your account but I'm not sure on that detail.
My rental is all inclusive and I've run into an unforeseen issue. Because nothing is in my name here none of the credit unions will verify the address. They will not accept a copy of my rental agreement or paycheck, nothing but a utility bill will do. And that I don't have, so I end up getting a letter in the mail asking me to call in because I pinged the scam detector. Mostly the letters show up in MS at my old address but I have gotten one at my Hawaii address. Not a big deal but getting your charge card flagged and frozen until you find time to call the east coast is a PITA.

That's hard to believe, since so many renters don't have utility accounts. I had a similar issue several years ago, but when I pressed them on it, I was told my car insurance or renter's insurance policy was also an acceptable proof of address. Remember, you're the customer, so don't be afraid to be insistent when something doesn't work for you.
It is Equifax that is being difficult to work with. They don't view me as their customer, was on the phone for about an hour and got no where. I have had to verify with each creditor individually via security questions etc. over the phone. I guess I'm lucky I only have 3 cards. I am in the process of contacting the other credit unions so maybe if everyone but Equifax has it right, they will have to correct their records to match what is reported to them. It is just an issue I didn't expect.

How come you need address verification with credit bureaus? I've got property on Oahu for rentals as well as the mainland and they never get it right but it never impacts my credit or applying for credit.
