I don't know how my house in Waipahu built, but it was 82 in my bedroom last night. I had to turn a/c on. So sad.

Too much hot air to sleep well?

Oahu, especially Honolulu is usually hotter than the rest of the state because there's so much concrete to make a thermal mass. If you take a hang glider and sail around out in the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden get an updraft, it might be from the parking lot far below. Concrete and blacktop hold and radiate a lot of heat.

No, I don't know too many people where I am that would turn the heat on for 50 degree low night. In fact it's 53 right now. All we do is shut the windows and put on another blanket. But we do react differently to the cold up in the north part of the mainland than others do, we are more used to it. Like the other poster said, even sunbathing in those temps is ok, I've started when it hits 40 on my south facing deck and the snow isn't completely melted in my yard.

That is cold for your part of the world though, I hope it doesn't last long.

53 now? In the middle of summer? Where are you? Brrr! Hate to see what winter looks like!

The original post about cold in Hawaii was from March or sometime in the middle of the coldest we see around here. At the moment, it's summer so the temperatures around here kinda bounce between the sixties and the eighties.

Where are you from? I grew up in Syracuse, and let me tell you, in the spring the 50s is nothing close to chilly. It may feel chilly in the summer compared to warmer temps, but in the spring it's positively warm.

Isnt there a tropical storm heading your way? Maybe thats why its so cold? Wow at least now i don't feel like a freak wearing a heavy coat the firsttime when its 50s or 60 here on mainland.

For those who have never lived in Hawai'i, let it be known we are not used to being cold, so i feel for u guys. Esp those from Honolulu etc who it tends to be warmer then everyone else because of the concrete.

Hang in there guys, when the storm passes it will get better. Aloha from the mainland.

The thread began back in April, and if memory serves, Kayekaye is in Minneapolis.

Yep. There was snow falling somewhere yesterday, which never hit the ground. I think it was Texas actually. Crazy weather. I did a double take when I read the first post, since this thread was bumped. Cuz it's muggy here. Last night was so still, little wind.
The storm is on the way!
