Yup, went down to 51 just last night, in MN. But it didn't seem that cold to us. No, you don't want to see what winter is like here. It get's pretty cold. I remember one time, many years ago, we had a low with wind chill of 70 below, got a plane and it was 70 above in Hawaii the next day. It was like a 140 degree difference for us. Wonderful.

So far no effects from Flossie, it was a wonderful gorgeous day. We took pictures since it was so pretty. We don't usually get such a clear view of Maui and Waipio but today we could just about see colors on Maui. The ocean horizon was a crisp clear line and the ocean a lovely deep blue.

Frequently, tropical storms and hurricanes head towards the Big Island and then veer off when they get near. We will be prepared but not really expecting much. If folks are seriously worried about the weather, then there will be a run on rice, toilet paper and Spam, but the grocery shelves were pretty well stocked so I dunno how worried most folks are. The Civil Defense has run a few radio notices about the upcoming storm so perhaps folks will stock up tomorrow.

Maybe we will all evacuate to your state, Kayekaye. Better cold than blown away, huh?

Somehow we survived the week:

Cool weather sets record low temperatures this week - Hawaii News - Honolulu Star-Advertiser

Record low temperatures were recorded in Honolulu, Lihue and Kahului airports on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 64 degree temperature in Honolulu broke the old record of 65 for the date set in 1950. Lihue Airport recorded 61 degrees, tying a record also set on Nov. 13, 1950.

On Tuesday, Kahului's 58 degree low temperature shattered the old record of 60 degrees set on Nov. 12, 1993. Lihue also set a record of 62 degrees, breaking the 1993 record of 63 degrees. Hilo also set a record low maximum temperature when the hottest it got was 74 degrees. The old maximum low of 77 degrees was set in 2001.
