Looks like if we lived in Laie, we'd probably visit Honolulu once a month to stock up(it's an hour away :P), kind of like we do here.... Definitely something to consider.
Honolulu and Los Angeles often battle for who has the worst traffic in the US - in this case, #1 isn't good, here is a recent article on battle of the worst.
I live in the Laie area & there are more options for grocery shopping than just Foodland. There is Tameras in Hauula, which is open on Sundays. Also, Long's Drugs will be opening in Hauula soon. For stuff we can't get around here we go to Kaneohe, which is a 30-45 minute drive. We go to Pearl City for Costco, Walmart & Sam's Club which is 45-60 minutes away. We rarely go into Honolulu which is a 60+ minute drive. These driving times are during non work commute hours. And yes, there are farmer's markets in the Laie area.
Oops! Costco is in Waipio, not Pearl City. Still a 45-60 minute drive from Laie.
