Came across this interactive tool from Zillow that shows by region, city, or zip code - the percentage of homes underwater.

US Housing Crisis - Negative Equity Infographic - Zillow

Some interesting facts - Hawaii County still has 27% of its homes underwater and housing prices are still 36% from peak. Surprisingly (at least to me), Maui is 24% underwater - Oahu is comes in at 11% but its home prices are only 5% from its all time peak.

Pahoa seems to have it the worse - at 43% underwater and Kahului comes in at 32%. On Oahu, Ewa Beach, an area I suggest to people to stay away from due to traffic (and as I've mentioned - homes don't appreciate there) is 22% underwater and still 11% from peak.

That doesn't surprise me about Pahoa. A friend of mine bought a vacant lot in Pahoa for about 30k before the market tanked. At it's lowest similar lots were going for 6k but have recently rebounded to about 8k. On top of that, she paid to have all the albizias removed.
