i was wondering what people thought the best cell phone company was for the oahu island. we currently have alltel in nc and it does great but there are not any there so we must change companies. we aren't really fans of cingular after bad experiences with them. we will be by schofield barracks on the oahu island. we will mostly be calling the louisiana area for family and between the two of us also. i was wondering who gets the best coverage in that area and who has the least dropped calls and problems.

Too bad you're leaving Alltel territory...they are among the best. In Oahu, all the carriers have excellent coverage. Since you don't like AT&T, I would choose Verizon for 2 reasons:

1) They are the local wireline carrier so they have more stores and "deals."
2) They have more extensive coverage on the other islands, especially Maui.

You will be able to use your Alltel phone all over the island, so don't feel a need to make a switch until you've settled into a new home and can make sure your new phone works there. Sprint would be a good 2nd choice, and if you don't plan to leave Oahu,T-mobile is also a good choice.

Get Pros & Cons about these carriers.
