Was just thinking about this today while flying back from Kauai to Hilo, via Maui. Technically, it was a 3 island day. I usually don't like to count airports as travel destinations though.

What is the most islands you have visited in one day (24 hour period) including airports?

3 for me on several occasions:
BI, Maui, Kauai
BI, Oahu, Kauai
BI, Maui, Oahu

What is the most islands you have left the airport on in one day (24 hour period)?

2- combinations of Big Island/ Maui/ Oahu/ Kauai

Anyone done all 6?

We did four once when doing landing practice in a small plane. I wasn't piloting, just along for the ride. We went from Oahu to Molokai, then Maui, then Big Island, then back to Oahu. Didn't leave the airport, but we did get out of the plane.

On a related note, we rode the following modes or transportation on the final day of our BI excursion last year:
- car
- helicopter
- outrigger with sail
- bus
- plane

If one includes islands and atolls in the State of Hawaiʻi that don't have airports, I've been to more than 6 within a 24-hour period.

I guess I just meant the "main 6," would be impressive if someone managed to hit those 6, and Kaho'olawe or Ni'ihau (REALLY IMPRESSIVE if they hit all 8) in a 24 hour period.

I've visited three Islands in 24 hours in the Navy on a ship. Kauai, Oahu (Pearl Harbor to pick up Families) Lahaina Maui for the weekend. This was back in the late 1990's.

If you had been on a sub I would have been one of the shuttle operators in Lahaina hauling your drunk butt back to the sub.

I was given a tour of the "USS Flasher" just before it was decommissioned. ('91-'92?)

To the OP? If visiting would not be limited to actually stepping foot on island then I can say four.

Impressive how many people have been to 4 or more islands in a 24 hour period. I have to wonder, though, just how much enjoyment you can get out of that kind of island hopping, considering time spent in airports (or on boats) and getting from point A to point B once you're out of the airport? Seems like there wouldn't be much time to actually enjoy anything beyond a meal or a quick walk on a beach before you had to get back to the airport and on another plane....
