At 5:00 p.m., the center of Tropical Storm Ignacio was located about 1,525 miles from Hilo.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Ignacio is forecast to become a hurricane on Thursday.

It can do whatever it wants tomorrow, I'm going to the beach. Those weather folks have been talking about too many storms lately so while it's sunny, it's time to go hang out at the beach for a day. Hopefully the water will be clean enough to swim, but if not, there's always gathering up sunshine.

There's another one behind that one too expected to head west as a major hurricane. Strong El Nino this year means lots of warm water for fuel and the pattern seems to be steering them all near Hawaii... It could be a long season for you guys. At least the wind sheer near the islands and the interaction with Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea tend to tear these things apart when they get close!

Readiness fatigue is setting in. The other night when odd flashing lights, loud booming sounds occurred and wet matter began falling from the sky we in Kihei came to the conclusion that it could be rain and a nearby thunderstorm. The jury is still out on that but we are prepared for major mayhem at all times now.

It was a really lovely day at the beach, even though the tide was really high and there wasn't much actual beach visible. The water was astonishingly warm, too. Usually there's a cold frisson as you get into the water but today it was just jump right in no having to mince or wince or anything. Add a few bubbles and it'd be a bubble bath. Was really lovely, though. Some debris in the water from the recent runoff, but fairly clear other than the floating leaves and twigs. Not a hurricane in sight. Good day at the beach.

Default Tropical Storm Ignacio strengthens slightly

Bermuda is still experiencing tropical storms force winds, so the Breakaway has been further delayed. We will be taking pilot at 6pm and be alongside the dock at around 8pm Atlantic Time.

Ever get the feeling, that somehow, between the full moon and the approaching hurricanes, CD has drifted a little too close to the internet Twilight Zone????

Maybe that's where that hurricane went. It's been a beauty day. Very calm, no rain, sunny, fluffy white clouds sedately parading on the horizon. No hurricane in sight.
