For vehicles over 35 years old it's my understanding that special antique license plates can be purchased. What do they look like? I can't find a photo of them anywhere on the internet. Just curious as I am considering moving with my vintage vehicle.

Those aren't the ones that say 'horseless carriage' on them, are they? A lot of folks just put regular plates on their old cars.

You can have regular plates made special if you like. A lot of folks get them with their initials on them or that spell out something cryptic that nobody else can figure out.

Regular passenger plates start out with the letters then the numbers, commercial plates are the reverse. Fleet plates are different colored. Veteran's plates have the word 'veteran' on them along with which war. Used to be each island's plates would start with a specific letter, but now Oahu has used up most of the letters, I think.

You're right on both counts. Hawaii Antique Auto License Plates

With the vanity plates, there's a an extra yearly fee assessed. As a result, you don't see many compared to a state such as Alaska, where it's just a one time fee.
