And who knows what you will "catch" after you catch the bus. Aaachooo.

Yes, just call an uber.

The only way not having a car works is if you live right next to your place of employment. For most people, that's not practical.

It depends. There is bus service everywhere in america, it's just a matter of finding the bus stops.

Or take an uber.

How is that picture of Janet Yellen relevant to this discussion? (below) Haven't we all taken unflattering photos at some point in our lives?

Thank you. Yes, I had the idea that Kauai might be best for this because of its small size, as compared to BI. Does Kauai have a lot of hills making bicycling strenuous...do you think one could bicycle all over the island?

All over - Kauai? No, since much of the island isn't even accessible by car.

One of my handful of acquaintances on the Big Island lives without a car on Papaya farms road.

She mostly lives off her land, with an occasional ride from friends. She's also an avid biker and has circumnavigated the island via bicycle. She could afford a car but chooses not to.

A stranger I picked up hitchhiking once on Highway 11 also reported to be car free, not out of choice. After his car died, he's taken to renting a car once every couple months to load up on food staples. The poor guy also has no refrigerator!

I shudder every time I see someone riding a bike on the highway between Kona and Na’alehu. It’s mostly two lane narrow twisty roads with a shoulder about two feet wide. I’m surprised there haven’t been more fatalities.
