I am afraid per their web site Delta is the same.

Pets To Hawaii
Hawaii requires that all live animals shipped or brought into the state have health and rabies inoculation certificates dated no more than ten days before travel begins. On Delta flights to Hawaii, pets will not be accepted as carry-on baggage.

I am just hoping some airline is going to step up and change their policy and fast. So I am calling and trying to elevate the issue, we have 3 weeks to go!.

If you have - I will be SOOO happy - thats our closing date and we need to get out of here. Are the pets in the cabin? Hawaiian told me no way out of Phoenix or LAX - in cabin or checked in. - Maybe it is the location!. We seem to be getting closer to the 2.30am LAX Pacific Air flight - going to start working on the logisitics tomorrow - maybe I can find someone in Maui Humane society or the like who can help me pick the kits up and get us all over the Maui without having to wait for my husband.

45lb dog, not going in the cabin anyway. But she's supposed to go checked, and from LAX. Now... do I call to confirm the reservation? Hmmm. I'll do that tomorrow and post the response.

OK, this whole thing had me nervous that I was going to show up at the airport and they would refuse to check her, so I called (waited 30 min on hold!) to confirm. I got a confirmation code for her reservation and was told that they have the embargo on pets in the summer out of Phoenix, Vegas, and Sacramento. But not out of LAX. I don't know if that helps you, but if you could get everyone to LAX, that would be an option. Good luck!

I was a little worried about LAX after having a discussion with United.

United said they would fly one cat in the cabin and one as checked in from Phx to LAX, then IF it was under 85 degC they would check both cats to Hawaii. But it was up to the LAX handlers and I could get stuck in LAX with both cats and not allowed to fly!

Might not be such as issue for a dog - but with the cats being smaller - they are more at risk for respiratory issues.

Default No airline is currently allowing pets in the cabin TO Hawaii

So far my research and many phone calls have not found any airline who will in April/May 2008 allow pets in the cabin TO Hawaii.

ATA were the only airline allowing this and they went bankrupt and discontinued all service April 2nd 2008.

Please let me know if anyone has found a commercial airline who is going to step into this gap and provide us pet owners with a safe way to get pets TO Hawaii.

PHX is too hot. You can always fly out of LAX. It's always cool enough on the coast. Although

Other than private charter planes you don't have much options. It’s interesting though, Hawaii does not have any requirements for where a pet resides (in cabin or cargo) however the airlines have to keep animals separate so upon disembarking in Hawaii the animals are under THEIR control and they will be taken immediately to the proper area at the airport for you to present the necessary paperwork for direct airport release. I am sure you can appreciate that the airlines don't want any problems with the Hawaiian government should a passenger with an animal (in cabin) be allowed to slip through the "process" - I mean how would the airlines be able to control where you went after you left the airplane with your pet? I doubt they are going to have someone personally escort you to the right area. This is my understanding of why all airlines entering Hawaii have pretty much the same protocol. I‘m not really sure how ATA worked in the past – does anyone know? I have three cats to get over to Maui at the end of the summer and I have made tons of telephone calls over the past few years and I have found no airline that will take cats (especially three) in cabin. I am going to ship mine cargo with Continental as they are the best pet friendly airlines around and I had my Egyptian Mau sent to me when he was quite young from a breeder in Oklahoma (who only uses them and says they are the best). Continental has a live animal desk at the airport and a climate controlled area in cargo, so to me this is my only option at this time. If anyone does know of any other way, please post.

Thanks and good luck everyone I know how much we love our little babies!
