Hmmm, the continuing no plan is the plan - with no test on arrival - compounded by we can't even do basic contact tracing

A Health Department whistleblower who helped to expose the agency’s failed efforts to conduct contact tracing for COVID-19 cases said she experienced panic attacks as she struggled to respond to the growing number of cases she was tasked with.

The lawmakers spoke to investigators who were handling up to 200 cases each.

“I sat there on a Tuesday, I had 22 cases in my cue. Then on Wednesday afternoon, I was up to 47 and Thursday as I watch the numbers tick 56, 57, 58, 59 I got so overwhelmed and panicked,” Smith said.

Smith said the investigators are not full-time contact tracers. They have other duties and so many can’t handle more than three new cases a day.

As coronavirus clusters spread, she says her efforts to sound the alarm fell on deaf ears.

"I asked multiple times to have the director come meet with us and have still yet to meet Dr. Bruce Anderson," said Smith.

When Hawaii News Now went along with the senators last week, Park said there were other contact tracers who were working remotely.

But Smith says the tracers are not allowed to work from home.

Arrgh! Dare we say 'typical'? I don't think we're gonna go to Oahu for possibly the next six months or more.

Not shocking at all. Totally typical of the government response. Always reacting, too little too late.

Instead of using the time given by the overbearing shutdown order to prepare for a later surge in cases once things reopen, they basically did nothing. Park even proclaimed earlier that contact tracing not necessary. Not to mention the fact that she lied about the contract tracer count. She was quietly sidelined, and the public not informed that there was a personnel change over a month ago.

Is all of this incompetence resulting in heads rolling? Nope, all they did was shuffle her off to the side, give her less responsibility, and keep paying her full salary. By the way, how much are taxpayers paying for all this incompetence??? she works 40 hours/week and makes up to $150/hour. Per civil beat database of public employee salaries.
