When COVID-19 began analysts predicted that Hawaii would have a boom post pandemic. Americans who normally travel to other countries were expected to want to play it conservative and head to domestic vacation places. Hawaii's success comes at the expense of Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, etc.
No one wants to contract Covid-19 and be stuck in a place with medical facilities comparable to the Health Room at your local high school.
Not when you have plainclothes police on a side street off Kalakaua handing out hundreds of $130 tickets for entering the crosswalk with a flashing palm.
Wife and I were just commenting on how nice and different the island felt during the lock down.
