Hi, I'm planning on visiting Hawaii in January for about 2 weeks.. I was saw some ads for vacation rentals on Craigslist... but I'm wondering how safe they are... Is there any reputable and safe way to rent these things? Jo
Jonomo, I really don't know about the safety of vacation rentals on craigslist (though I know you have to use caution using craigslist to find regular rentals, so I would assume it would be the same for vacation rentals), but there are a ton of helpful people on here, from every island, and if you let us know which island you are visiting I bet some of the members can point you to quite a few reputable places. :-)
Location: not sure, but there's a hell of a lot of water around here!

Try the Craigside condos/apartments up on Nuuanu Ave in Honolulu, had a place there for years, fairly quiet, bus stop is right in front, and only about 15 minutes to the airport, was really handy when I wanted to get back to Maui in a hurry.

I would do the following, no matter where I found the vacation rental:
Ask the owner if they will give you references, with telephone numbers. Call them.
Ask the owner for an on-line "guestbook". Look carefully at it.
Ask the owner if they are on VRBO.com. If so, look at the bottom of their VRBO page for the date when they started. If they've been there for a while, they are probably quite safe. Complaints would get them dropped from VRBO.
only when there's kona weather, jungjohann like today. the VOG is here all the way from the biggest island to o'ahu. bet maui has it, too.
