Yes, I can see where you're coming from. More people all over the country have two jobs. I agree.

One of the things that is different about Hawai'i is that we hear alot... I would rather be working two jobs in Hawai'i than two jobs in Illinois (or whatever state they live in). I would rather be broke in Hawai'i than broke on the mainland.

I'm not saying it's better or worse. I'm just saying it's something we experience that other states don't experience. Aloha!

Or put another way... If I have to have a cr@p job in this economy I would rather it be in Hawaii than in (pick your state).

The reality is that Hawaii can be broken into 2 parts - Honolulu and the other islands. There are vast differences between them. Remember that Honolulu is ranked the 2nd most expensive city in the US to live in and 25th globally. Right now, the jobs (few that they are) are mainly in Honolulu and they tend to pay way less than their mainland counterparts.
