I remember, years ago when we owned a reptile store, that some customers who had visited Hawaii stated that while out hiking they saw a lot of Jacksons (3 horned) chameleons free ranging. I remember reading when researching this that they were animals imported, I believe without authorization, and that they adapted to live on the islands (perfect conditions for them). I'm curious if these were isolated to a specific island or spread throughout.

I was told they are here in Kauai but have not seen one as of yet. Just Geckos and the green chameleons ones with no horns.

Cool. The chameleons I raised were always wonderful to observe. I'd like to find them in a natural setting for photography.

They are up in the mountains on Oahu and in a lot of areas of the Big Island. The story is a pet shop owner in Kailua imported the first batch and they escaped. How they got to the other islands, I dunno, but they did. Kids catch them and sell them occasionally. There's generally someone in Waimanalo on Oahu selling them.
