If anyone here lives in Molokai and has kids of any age (or knows someone who does), please help us spread the word about a fun even this weekend! Check out our video:

YouTube - Math in Molokai.mov

There will be undergrad & grad students from math & engineering at UH (along with a few of us profs tagging along for the ride), doing awesome math activities. It'll be a blast.

And afterwards, I'll have the rest of the day Sat and all day Sun free on Molokai before I come home Sun evening. What should I not miss on my first trip there?

Hi newUHprof! How was Molokai? When I was island hopping this fall, that was probably my favorite island. So beautiful, Kalaupapa was incredible, some of the nicest people I have ever met. Just a beautiful place all around!

It was a great trip. Molokai is really different from anywhere else I've ever been (and I've been a lot of places). We were lucky because lots of local folks helped us out with our planning and fed us while we were there (!), and one of the moms who brought her kid to the event took us on a hike through her property in Halawa valley.

I wish we had been able to stay for longer, and that maybe I could have struck out on my own a bit more (tough with a group of 15-30 people going everywhere together). But we'll be back again... soon, I hope.
