Speaking of saimin, we had the best at a little place near downtown Lihue. Sorry, I don't remember the name, but the seating consisted of this long, U-shaped counter. Their everything-but-the-kitchen sink saimin is the best. This was late 2004, so hopefully it's still there. Okay, found it:
Bubba's Burgers near Kailua-Kona and north of Lihue.
Killer Tacos - locations in Kailua-Kona and north shore Oahu.
Leonard's in Honolulu for malasadas. I'd pick up a dozen on the way back to the condo, after dropping my wife off for her conference at UH.
Ken's House of Pancakes in Hilo. It's off the beaten path. We never would have found it without the "blue book."
Also in Hilo - don't remember the name, but it's located on a pond near Banyan and all of the hotels. About our favorite restaurant for dinner. I think there are marks on the outside to show how high the water was from the tsunamis.
I'm sure that I'll think of more. Maybe I'll dig out the "blue books."
Mmm... I almost forgot about malasadas! YUMMY! Cinnamon and sugar is the best!
Yee gawds and little fishes, if you get more than six folks in CC Jon's it will be crowded! We generally get the cheese sandwiches there.
Anyone like the 50's Cafe in Laupahoehoe?
My all time favorite plate lunch was Masa's back when it was over near Ala Moana, but they moved to Palama and then finally shut down, I think. The lunch truck at Kewalo's was pretty good, too.
Anyone remember Tasty Broiler?
My all-time favorite lunch truck is the one that sits up and down at Haleakala and Nanakuli Ave in Nanakuli. So yummy and he also has good prices for noodles!
This one time, I was walking through China Town in Honolulu and I found this hole-in-the-wall place that makes ono pork hash. Not sure what the name is but it's located near the piers somewhere. LOL
Who in here likes manapua? I do!! I love to just go to 7-11 and grab some musubi and manapua. YUMMY!
And is that spam musubi? We get manapua at the gas station. I like the curry chicken or char siu pork. Malasadas are good, too, but they seem too sweet sometimes.
I think Oahu has better sushi places than Moku Nui, but there is a Genki sushi over on the Kona side now. It's always fun to watch the food go by.

Yeah I like spam or teriyaki chicken musubi. Ooohhh Genki Sushi is one of my favorite places.
Ok, here's one that I forgot about. For breakfast, Mac Pancakes at Boot's and Kimo's in Kailua. Anyone else had the pancakes there? I wish I knew how to make their syrup.
Found some new (to us) ono grindz, so I'm reviving this old thread. Ele'ele/Port Allen, Kauai - Grindz Cafe (not sure if it's Grindz or Grinds). Incredible sandwiches on homemade bread, breakfast all day, pizza (and everything else we saw - we had sandwiches) looks fantastic. Great home fries. Very nice folks run it, too. The "Not So Loco Moco" - Loco Moco with sausage instead of burger - sounds yummy too.
