A couple blocks from Hamura's is Ma's Family Restaurant with the best kalua pork and scrambled eggs (they're both one of a kind).

I used to bartend at Club Jetty (it exists no more ), Ma's is where we went after work to eat at 5 in the morning.

Lei's, Aloha shirts and Luau's on every scale (local and tourist).

Celebrating the first birthday luau's (big stuff!).

Well behaved dogs and responsible owners on the beaches. Most beaches on mainland aren't pet friendly.

Mahalo on garbage cans.

Rainbows all over the sky. Not just one at a time.........Many at a time.

No doors to the hotel main lobby.........

Pineapples delivered to the airport for you at your departure time, with YOUR name on the box.

Pineapples that singlely can not be taken home..........due to whatever the bug is.

Tall mountains with lots and lots of waterfalls (many)

The flowers in abundance as in Kauai.....all over the island.

Hawaiian songs filling the air...........

No parking fees at the beach.........No beach fees

Lots of Alohas and Mahalos........( such friendly people)

Diamond Head..........

Must have lived in some lousy places, I take my dog to the beach all the time and the city provides "poo bags" for us to clean up their mess... which people use. Must have been on some other part of the "mainland". LOL

Things I only saw in Hawaii:

All different kinds of Poke (Yum)
Rainbows all the time
Mongoose everywhere
The mountain and ocean so close to each other (my favorite thing)
People wearing tank tops and cut of shorts on the golf course (laid back!)
Mopeds with surf-racks carrying two people and two boards
Overweight asians (they are all skinny most other places LOL)

Huge man sitting in his car in the parking lot of Target quietly playing a ukelele and singing in Hawaiian. Awesome, sweet and nowhere else.

Schools, parks, etc. named after royalty. e.g., Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.

Government buildings named in a language other than English (e.g., Puuhonua Kaulike - "Sanctuary of Justice" - that's our courthouse).
