This is the first time I've ever looked at the Hawaii forum. It just caught my eye today because lately I've noticed that there is a car driving around town with Hawaiian license plates, and I live in a shore town in New Jersey!
Gee, I hope to visit your state someday. It sounds wonderful.

What does "Mahala" mean?
Ya just the opposite with me in Hawaii with NY plates for a month I had the best time watching people pull up behind me at a signal and look eyes wide hit the person next to them and say look!

Once you go to HI, the Jersey shore will not appeal to you at all. Gorgeous and clean beaches, nice people! ALL FREE! You're able to park without paying and a crowd in HI is 20 people on the beach, unlike Jersey, where you pay to park, pay to get on the beach and only get a stamp size portion of beach to sit. No GSP to drive in bumper to bumper traffic either. You WILL love it!

I'm sure I would. The beach is only a mile away so I don't have to drive the GSP to get here as I did when I lived in north Jersey, but yesterday I decided to drive north to work instead of taking the train as I usually do because we were getting out early. Even so, the Memorial Day Weekend traffic was already in full swing. Nightmare.
I have no doubt that HI would be VERY different from here! I'll start saving my pennies for a trip (it's tough with a kid in college.)

Ha, that must have been amusing. The only other time I've seen a car with Hawaii plates was once when I was in Maine.

I used to bartend at Club Jetty (it exists no more ), Ma's is where we went after work to eat at 5 in the morning.

If you worked at Club Jetty (I assume the one at Nawiliwili) than you must be *old* LOL, nah, I'm more old 'cause I went to see the Reycards there back in 1961. You remember them? Their comedy was side-splitting funny! As funny as Abbott and Costello for sure. Both gone (RIP Rey and Ricky):
