This is a really nice thread, but its a bit much. I've lived here my whole life (Maui and Oahu) and can say that most of this is true, but this aloha spirit nice mindedness many speak of is almost always directed towards family or friends. Am i wrong in assuming that in many parts of the world people help out and treat friends and family well. Back to the main topic, something in Hawaii that you won't see anywhere in the world...the silversword plant on Maui, you can't find that anywhere but on Haleakala.

All in the eye of the beholder. Rather than being a bit much, I think noticing the good stuff, and mentioning it, doesn't happen quite enough! Too much time is spent on noticing and wailing about the bad stuff. Not you. Just saying.
I had no friends nor family here when I moved. People who are now friends became so because of how we both acted. It's important to treat people in a good way, and also to be aware of when they are doing the same for you. Gratitude and appreciation count big everywhere.
I'm OK with being the first to smile, wave, greet, do a favor. If you wait for someone else to be the first, then one will have lost out on many opportunities for a good exchange.
Silverswords are found on both Maui and Hawai'i Island. They are all in the same genus, but are slightly different species. So the Haleakala silversword can only be seen on Maui but the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa silverswords can be seen on Hawai'i Island. They are all quite beautiful.
This list is great! Thanks for all these things that I had not noticed
