Sounds like some confusion here. Medigap plans (aka Medicare supplemental plans) do not deal in HMOs or PPOs. Are you thinking of Medicare Advantage plans, which do have HMOs and PPOs ??

You may want to read http://www.medicare.gov/Publications/Pubs/pdf/02110.pdf to understand Medigap better.

I have to decide this November to switch from Anthem Group Plan to Kaiser Group Plan. This medical insurance is very confusing.

It always seems to be changing.

Because Medicare is not a "one size fits all" program, I would suggest you contact the SHIPS advisory service in your state for assistance in making the right choices. The State Health Insurance Assistance Program, or SHIP, is a national program that offers one-on-one counseling and assistance. This is a free service supported by Medicare. The Florida SHIPS office info can be found at

It depends entirely upon the individual's needs. What works for one will not necessarily work for another. You need to consult with a medicare advisory organization. There are some good suggestions here or you can start with your Social Security office.

I would suggest going back through older thread titles here in the Retirement Foirum, say, including pages 2, 3, and 4 as well as looking to the bottom of page one. This issue of how to best receive one's Medicare coverage as been discussed in this forum endlessly. Take a quick look at every thread that has "Medicare" in the title.

My wife was in the medical field so she does know a bit about supplemental plans. Her bottom line is not all plans fit all people. She worked with her sister (70) and her Mom (92) on supplemental plans here in SC. The best for each was not the same plan. Plus my wife and I use one different then either her sister or Mom.

3 people, 3 different plans.
