ANTELOPE (CBS13) — A local couple says California’s new health exchange is literally a lifesaver for them.
The last two night, CBS13 has brought you stories about the problems people have had with Covered California, including being denied care by doctors because of who provided their insurance.
Woman that's retired before Medicare age, living in nice neighborhood...OK ,maybe insurance would have been expensive but how about paying oop for a mammogram once every few years or....novel concept.....stay working until you can afford to retire!
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that some people that had no insurance and now do, might have benefitted but that wasn't a good couple to use as an example.

Hey, not everyone CAN stay working until retirement age!
Aren't there places that provide free mammograms and/or ones on a sliding scale? And even if one pays full price it most likely is on average, $150 or less.
I'm thankful for this Affordable Healthcare Act.
$150 USD is nothing for rich people, but for poor people who on their own, make minimum wage job and pay for rent and living, they have nothing much left at the end of the month. For them to pocket out $150 could be hard for them.
CoveredCA save me, at least now I have a doctor and a medical group. Where I can go to get medicine when I am sick, do labs work, or other screening.

I'm far from being rich so I do understand that $150 would be a lot of money for many people but I also know that there are clinics that will offer free mammograms or mammograms on a sliding scale for those who qualify based on income.

Must be a good feeling to have your own doctor and a medical group that you can call or see, now, when you're not well. Yours is a good story.
Look, without getting into an argument about what people should spend their money on or other peripheral issues, the couple in the article doesn't appear to be poverty stricken and if they can afford the dog, for instance and not dying of breast cancer is important to them, I'll bet a million that they could have come up with enough money over the course of the supposed years she went without one , to get a mammogram!
With way too many people, it comes down to a matter of priorities .
