our insurer health republic just went under here in ny . we were all told we have 2 weeks to find a new insurer to take us .
Mathjak FYI Oscar uses the same Magnacare network as Health Republic did. I am also in your situation and wanted to keep the flexibility of an EPO plan for as long as possible.
United leaving will be a big deal. I am sure the other mega companies will also follow suit. Individual purchasers will have less choice and higher costs. ACA will become unsustainable and collapse.
I actually think many liberals even knew it was going to fail, but it was the first push towards a single payer system.
Exactly! Anytime the government forces an entrepreneur to produce something, the quality deteriorates; and single-payer strategies will only damage it further.
This was the plan all along, only it is happening just a lot faster than the Obama administration thought it would.
The plan all along was to drive all the private health insurance companies out of the business, at which point the US government would step in as the 'universal payer' for all health care for everyone in the US. The plan was it would take 10 to 15 years; some of us at HHS said it would happen much faster. Apparently, we were right.
Another one of the guys who had it right (he said about six years - seems he was spot on) was Rahm Emanual's brother. He was one of the architects of Obamacare, and he is on record - everywhere - saying that the goal was to drive the private insurers out of the marketplace so that the US government could step in as the universal payer.

Well, Obama got his wish...
Yes, for many politicians they knew they couldn't push a single-payer system so had to settle for the next best thing. Now, they can blame the insurance companies and act like government is the savior and needs to step in.
Too many sick people paying too little or nothing (via Medicaid and/or subsidies), healthy people stuck with outrageous premiums and deductibles. Handwriting on the wall.....
