Obviously a conversation for my Dr and I don't even know if he will do it but would like opinions here, please. Too long a story but I have an appointment with my Dr on Monday and hoping to talk him into a long term antibiotic treatment for my Lyme disease. Otherwise, I have to fly to another state to see a Lyme specialist which is going to cost me a fortune that I don't have. Like I said, long story and some of you know it. I would like to know if anyone here has had this treatment for whatever and what were your side effects? I read on the internet about the constipation issue but what else is new. It seems like everything I take causes constipation. What else? I know it's not good for you but I'm so sick and getting worse. I need help and I need to get it as inexpensive as possible. If my primary gives it to me I can just pay a $15copay and I'm hoping insurance picks up the prescription tab. Thanks!
If I were you, and in a position to afford a specialist out of state, I'd do it. I just have a really hard time with antibiotics. Constipation is usually a result of the candida overload caused when antibiotics remove the beneficial bacteria from your body. Finding a balance of probiotics and antibiotics could be a challenge. Bacteria can also mutate to form drug-resistance, which is never a good thing. I usually get a yeast infection within 48 hours of being on antibiotics, so I can't imagine being on them long term. But it sounds like you are in a lot of discomfort and needing relief. I wish you the best of luck.
I would recommend you alos see a specailist at a top medical center rather than a gneral phd.Anti-biootics are a mdern miracle and not much takes their palce. But like all treatjments some people have different reaction. That is why a specaiist is importanti specialist treatemnt for seriousdiseases. many of the reactions like all drugs can go away later in most patients.
Thank you both. I'm not in a position to go to a specialist, it will mean travel expenses plus my insurance won't pay for a Lyme specialist or any treatment they give. Of course I can put it all on a credit card bit would rather not. I've been so sick I haven't been able to work that much so my income has greatly decreased.
I did do two months (not consecutive) of the antibiotics and the only side effect I experienced was it made me even more tired than I already am. Considering I already spend a lot of time in bed, that's something I can deal with. The long term effects of Lyme, not properly treated are worse than what I have read about the antibiotics. I was hoping someone here maybe had the same treatment and can tell me their experience.
