My husband and I are average size. He "bloomed" a little late. Our children are small for their age. We eat healthfully, exercise, get plenty of rest, take quality vitamins, aren't stressed out, etc.... Is there anything I can do or give them to help them grow? They are bright and happy. I love them just the way they are, but I just can't help but notice how dinky they are when they are in a group of peers. Thanks!

You can't really override genetics. What you are doing is all you can do. My d-i-l cooks 3 x day, very rarely do the kids get fast foods or sweets. The grandkids are all above average height and Mom is Filipina, dad is maybe 5'10".

Whole milk and fast food. Your kids will hit puberty at 8 years old or your money back.

How about trying not to judge your children based on their height? You say you love them just the way you are, but then you use the word "dinky" to compare them with their peers.

Really - your kids are healthy. They're happy. You love them. That should be the end of the discussion.

You can't help them grow taller. If there was a way to do this I would know about it. I'm 5"5 and always wanted to be 5"8

I'm not trying to "judge" my kids, for crying out loud! I'm just trying to do all I can to help them grow.

If your kids haven't hit puberty yet, then their size right now is absolutely no predictor of their future height and size. Well, it is sort of I guess, in the sense that if you have a gracile bone structure you always will and if you're stocky, you always will be. But my oldest dd was always the tallest child in her class until she hit puberty, and now at 18, I don't think she'll make it to 5'2". I prefer the term "petite" though b/c she's adorable. My younger dd was always much shorter growing up, and I think she's slightly taller--maybe 5'3" if she's lucky. These girls didn't have a chance though b/c my dad was 5'2" and his dad was the same height.

Once I met a lady and her 2 teenage sons. A couple of months later I ran into her and her youngest and I said that I thought she only had 2 sons and now here was another. She laughed and said that in that time he had grown 6 inches. He is now quite tall, so you just never know. A lot of men do mature late and can grow til 21.

An interesting thing for anyone with a going on 2 yo in their family is to measure the 2yo's ht on their b-day. If you double that, you'll get their adult ht and it worked exactly with my younger dd.

I took my son to an Endocronologist (sp?) to have him evaluated. It is a lot of tests, but they can help you determine how your child will grow. They can also help you make a decision if you want to use growth hormones to help your child grow.

My son isn't even on the height chart. So we took him to the doctor. We haven't made a decision yet. Tests are still being run and it has been 18 months.
