I hope someone has an idea what this might be. About six months ago I started feeling something in my left ear. It almost felt like a small insect crawling in there. Maybe something like a tick. I had an appointment with a Doc on something unrelated. I asked him to check it out and he found nothing unusual. This comes and go at weird times and lately it feels more present than ever. There is no pain and it really is not an itch. More of a slight pressure with maybe it feeling as if something is moving around a little.

Any thoughts?

It's the badness itching to come out.

Seriously though, you might just have a sensitive nerve that gets irritated by a hair in there, or even something as insignificant as a speck of dust. I get that sometimes, but I wear hearing aids and I already know what it is - it's sort of a hallucination. My ears just really don't like those hearing aids, and the left one always feels like it's going to pop out (it fits perfectly) and the right one gets itchy once in awhile.

I do wear hearing aids but I never wear them at home and this feeling comes at any time. It feels like a bug in there and is frustrating at times.

Well, the slight pressure or fullness could be a blocked or partially block eustachian tube.

Here's a link concerning that: Eustachian Tube Problems Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment on MedicineNet.com

As for the crawling sensation in the ear, the following link says that the causes could be ear wax, fluid in the ears, an early infection, or an actual foreign body. Ask an Expert: Sensation of something crawling into my ear

If your eardrum is not perforated, try turning your head to the side and putting some hydrogen peroxide in your ear. Let it foam and bubble for a couple of minutes and then let it run out. Maybe the problem is as simple as a piece of ear wax moving around.

If the doctor you saw was a general practitioner, go see an ear, nose, and throat specialist.

It may be wax.

I had what happened to you happen to me a few years ago. I was laying in bed and felt something moving in my ear (like a bug). My worst fear was it was a spider in my ear. I went to clinic, they checked my ears and found that I had a lot of wax. They cleaned it out with warm water and that was that.

I tend to believe it is not wax as I go to the audiologist every 6 months and my ears are checked. But you never know.

Not trying to compare you to my old dog ..

Took him to a vet years ago sure that something was in his ear. The vet was so adamant there wasn't, and ruled out completely that it could be a tick.

Thankfully he kept 'digging' and he was really surprised when he pulled out a tick, then another, and then a third.

Not insinuating you may have a tick, just pointing out that it's not an impossibility you may have something in there just because a doc or vet doesn't believe it to be the case.

If it continues to bother you, I'd get the doc to clean out your ears with water as someone mentioned, which should help eliminate either wax build-up or some little critter that may have made it's way up.

Earwigs and other small organisms are known to crawl into the ear canal once in awhile.

I have had sensations in my ears for months now. The sensations are mostly in the large opening before the canal and feels like light pressure against the hairs that move around. The sensations change often and the only pain comes from reacting but scratching or rubbing in my ear. There is no oozing.

I'm having the same bug crawling sensation, but I don't think there's a bug in there. It's usually only at night when I lay down. I read on some other forums, that this can be a sign of a fungal infection. You can use white vinegar drops for a few days, and see if it gets better. If this doesn't work then off to the ENT Dr.

Go get your ears cleaned from a professional, i did this recently and it was amazing, all these gobs of wax came out and i felt much better. its worth a shot, even if the irritation doesn't go away at least you'll have clean ears.
