This should be an interesting poll, so please take it:
How many of you haven't visited a doctor for a long time (not even having annual exams) because you have been feeling perfectly fine? How many years have it been since your last doctor visit (including regular checkups)?

I established a PCP this year, had not had one in about 5 years or so. In the time in between I'd gone to an urgent care 1x and the ER 1x (for a urinary tract infection). I went almost 3 years without seeing an ob/gyn, but started going again last year. Overall I'm very healthy. But I figure I need a PCP so I'm not having to go to the urgent care clinic again for something stupid (in my case, poison ivy - I wanted something prescription-strength to deal with it).
I have been seeing doctors on a regular basis for the last couple of years (High blood pressure, cholesterol, Singles, Peripheral Neuralgia, blah, blah, blah).
Before that it had been so long that my doctor retired and I never knew...
When I turned 60 my body just started falling apart.
Beside visiting an eye doctor and having catarract surgery earlier this year, I haven't been to an MD since the late 80s. I prefer consulting with naturopathic and ayurvedic physicians. MDs and other allopathic practitioners are a last resort for me, when all else fails.
I haven't been to a doctor because I was sick in several years. But I did have a precancerous thing frozen off my cheek (guess that counts as being sick) earlier this year and I get regular ob/gyn and PC screenings.
Opinions, please: what is the value of annual check up, if you feel healthy? I'm like when I (or family member) get an annual check up and see a few items out of normal range, I'd be concerned and try to look for info about what kind of conditions I/they might have or will have. But years later, everything still fine. So the check up really does more harm to my psychological health.
So the check up really does more harm to my psychological health.
That's the point that most people just don't catch on to. We have been brainwashed by the ongoing propaganda to get those annual checkups, regardless of the damage caused to our psyches.
So... if you are above a certain age, do some of you not agree with mammograms, Pap tests, yearly (or so) checks with a dermatologist for skin cancers, colonoscopy, eye exams?
