These are all great suggestions, thank you all so much

I got her signed up with the division of blind services today, they said they will contact her within 30 days. I will get that application filled out for the library too, that sounds very promising.

Thank you!

Often people who have strokes, eir vision seems to come back a bit after six months or so, a neuro ophthalmologist could probably be a good resource in her case, as the damage is based on the areas affected by the stroke. I suggest encouraging your Mom to attend a min blind rehabilitation program, there are many offered, she may be resistant to go, but it would be a life changing experience for her.

I suggest she would benefit from a talking watch,

So sorry about your mom.

I'm not blind but a big fan of audio books - I recently bought a bem box . Love it...

Amazon.com: Bem HL2022B Bluetooth Mobile Speaker for Smartphones - Retail Packaging - Black: MP3 Players & Accessories

It's a small (about the size of a tennis ball) speaker - basically any device (smartphone, laptop, tablet) that you can play music or books thru and has Bluetooth enabled can be used with it. Basically - you play what you want to hear thru your device, pair it up with the Bem speaker and the sound plays thru the speaker.

Hi There,

Look for an organization that provides "vision rehabilitation therapy" or "vision rehabilitation teaching" in your area.

This is a good place to start : Vision Rehabilitation Therapists - VisionAware

I am a vision rehabilitation therapist in graduate school right now.

If she would like to use a long white cane, you can find an Orientation and Mobility instructor to help her.

VRT's and O&M's are certified and most have masters degrees but eye doctors usually do not know abut them because the field has not yet gained licensure. We provide very legitimate and helpful services though.
