I've got it. Pretty sure it's the viral kind as I have a faint headache and a sore throat. Doctor can't fit me in until tomorrow. Anything I can do to ease the symptoms or treat it til then?

My theory is that I picked it up at a public park frequented by children when I went into the bathroom to fill the water bowl for my dog. There was no soap to wash my hands after touching the knob on the faucet, so...

I'm thinking I need to get a nice stock of hand sanitizer too.

Thanks!

Time and meds...so sorry!

Let everyone read this to get the soap thing....thank you.

Boric acid and water as an eye wash can sooth it a bit.
Don't know any other...

Ugh I hate pink eye! I had it two years ago and it was a pain.

The doctor told me that about 80% of cases are jut viral and need to run their course. She did give me drops. I was back to normal in a week, maybe less?

I had it over 15 years ago in college - it went through the whole campus, I think. In any case, my concern now is about how it is transmitted. My dog loves to snuggle with people. When I sleep at night, he is laying right up against me and sometimes likes to rest his head on mine. Normally, I find this endearing, but I worry that he could transmit it to my roommate and her guests as they play with him a lot.

Does he have pink eye? I am not sure if it's transmittable through animals. When I had it the doctor told me I didn't even have to miss work because as she put it "Adults are a lot more aware of hand washing and hygiene than kids are. Kids are constantly touching their faces and each other a lot more than adults are"

Well, I picked it up via a contaminated surface, I'm pretty sure, and I read that it can be spread through things like doorknobs and whatnot. So if my dog snuggles with me while I'm in bed, and then runs upstairs and snuggles with my roommate while she sits on the couch, I'm wondering if his fur would qualify as a surface. I mean, one of his favorite things to do is to just rub his face against my cheek, and I'm sure he does similar stuff with the other people in the house.

I had it so bad that I had to wear sun glasses and stay in a dark room it was awful . I was so sick . I hope you feel better soon .

Nothing you can do. Just don't go anywhere, it's very contagious.

I agree with convextech. I woked as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician for ten years and everything you are doing is right, OP. Pink eye is very contagious, so be sure you wash your hands frequently and avoid contact with others as much as you can until you can get in to see the eye doc. He/she can determine for sure if that's what it is. If it is pink eye, you'll get the standard drops. Try not to touch or rub your eye, and if you do, wash your hands.

When you wake up in the morning dont scream in panic thinking you are blind. Its just the eye being crusty and not opening....

Yes I did that once as a child.
