I'm a 25 year old and I work at a job that requires standing all day. Last night was a 10 hour shift and on my 8th hour, I started walking like someone's grandma. When I'm not working, my feet are mostly fine. But when I'm at work, I get balloon feet. My coworkers notice it and told me to see a doctor. I explained to them that it's fine, and I'm mostly overweight. But they stated that I'm too young to get swelling feet.

Note that I put a lot of money into being able to stand at work. I spent $30 on two pairs of work shoes only to find that one of them broke the 3rd month I bought it and the insoles wore out. The other one I didn't wear but they hurt when I did, but those shoes were really effective at work. It saved my life.

The problem was that I went to the same store and bought shoes only to return them 3 days later because I get foot pain from a four hour shift. It came to the point where I was nearly banned from making returns again.

So I settled for inserts and found a $20 one that worked, but only for 2 months.

I'm 25 years old and wonder if feet swelling is normal for someone my age.

At 25, your feet shouldn't swell. Pain from a 10 hour shift, if you're not used to it, is reasonable. Swelling shouldn't happen.

$30 on a pair of shoes? You aren't doing your feet any justice with cheap shoes.

Consider an anti-fatigue mat: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...S5G3XVM5CEFDJB

I don't like the mats, I trip on them, and yeah, $30/shoes aren't that great, I shouldn't comment on your financial state though.

I have a pair of http://www.shoesforcrews.com/sfc3/index.cfm?changeWebsite=US_en&route=c_store.viewDe tailsOfProduct&partnumber=5010 that I like as well. It's in the price range that you paid for the shoes. Lots of room and well, they are comfy since it is mostly that rubber foam material (similar to the mats).

http://www.shoesforcrews.com/sfc3/in...artnumber=5008 is good too but less air flow

You mentioned you're overweight, that is contributing to the problem. More stress on your feet. If you lost some weight you'd save on food and could buy better shoes.

See a doctor! If people who know you are telling you, why are you asking a message board?

Because I don't have money to see one and I don't want to waste it unless I can confirm the issue is serious.

Firstly, why are you posting this here? Is your coworkers opinion not good enough?

Secondly, this should probably belong in the health forum.

Compression socks will help, but there's all sort, including prescription ones. You want a pair with the correct amount of compression, but not too much.

I agree, see your doctor. Make sure it's nothing to be too concerned about.

See a doctor just for peace of mind. You want to rule out anything serious. On the unlikely chance it is serious, you will have a whole lot more than money to worry about.

Swollen feet can be a symptom of something serious, but only a medical professional can truly tell you that.
