I read this article in the Atlantic. More of us are becoming aware that antibiotic resistant bacteria are becoming more prevalent and killing more people. It is estimated that last year, 23,000 Americans died of infections from bacteria which do no respond to any antibiotics that currently exist. This article talks about a new antibiotic that is undergoing trials right now. It looks very promising. If things go as intended, bacteria may have a hard time becoming resistant to it.
All I can say is I hope this is for real. Few people understand what a looming public health problem we are facing.
