I know people generally like quick fixes, but for me, cleaning up my diet & lifestyle proved the most effective for me. The less horrible crap (that includes mental + emotional crap!) you put into your system, the less your womb will struggle to filter through & release it.
Birth control pills stopped my period so I had no cramps for many years while taking them.
I just stopped taking it last summer and now my cramps are much less bad than they were pre-bc pills. When I do have a day of cramps, a heating pad is always helpful.
Also, no tampons (they make the cramps worse for me) and cloth pads only (no disposables).
I took the pill constantly for over 10 years. No period, no cramps, nothing. I stopped it when I was 51. Still nothing. I should have been in menopause at that point - I am guessing that because of my family history (female relatives hit menopause about age 51). But I never got hot flashes or anything. Not that I am complaining. :-)
The whole business of cramps, bleeding, etc. was kind of gross and a real nuisance. I am glad that I was able to stop it when I was young (kids were not in the game plan for me).
My DD tried it all, but nothing helped. So she finally just got on birth control pills and she takes them without a break and doesn't have periods, or much of one.
I wasn't crazy about the idea, but the doc said it's safe (??) and she had to get through college....the thought of trying to go to class with the kind of cramps, dizziness, and even fainting she was experiencing sent her into orbit.
Taking the pill constantly certainly eliminates a lot of problems. My only question - since it messes with the hormones, are there any long term health effects? I was just diagnosed with Osteoporosis, and I am only mid 50s. Of course, I have other risk factors, but I wonder if constant use of the Pill contributed to this.
If there are no long health risks associated with constant use of the Pill, then I can't imagine why every woman wouldn't do it. As long as she isn't trying to conceive, of course.
I have been getting my periods since last 15-16 years and there was never a day I took medicine for the pains/cramps. Here is what always helps me:
- Green tea.
- I have noticed less-no cramps when I went on a vegan diet for few months.
- Leaving warm water bag on the stomach for few mins. Walmart sells hot water bags. I fill it up with hot tap water, lie down on bed and leave that bag on my stomach for 10-15 mins. This helps me reduce pains/cramps. I just do it during my period days or couple of days before it arrives since I start getting pains 2-3 days before it comes.
