Update: I visited the ortho with my father. Looks like his joints don't have any issues. Doctor termed his condition as - trochanteric bursitis... Quick googling says it's a kind of inflammation in a part called bursa.
The bursae are fluid filled sacs that cushion the joints so they don't rub together. Sometimes a cortisone shot into the bursa will eliminated the accumulated fluid which is causing the pain. Also PT might be of assistance. Most docs in the US utilize the shots to settle the inflammation and then recommend an NSAID like Ibuprophen or Advil or Aleve to decrease the inflammation.
