I recently saw a medical program about people who have had their colons removed due to things such as colitis and how they have adapted after the procedure. While the show talked a lot about the quality of life, I missed how long someone could actually live after such a procedure or how many years such a procedure could take out of someone's life.

I tried Googling it, but didn't come to any clear conclusions. Does anyone know more about this here?

Cole to my doesn't take any years off of a person's life. (The disease process that caused the colectomy to be necessary might, though.)

My mom lived the rest of her life which was until 97 and it was not a contributing factor.
That probably won't answer your question, though, since she was 89 when she had it done.

I had one in 2000; then several resections ending with an ileostomy in 2006 with a couple more resections (the last one in 2015).

I hate it, but I am alive so there is that. I would have died long ago without the procedures and any time has been an extension not a shortening of life.
