Thank you for posting this, CA4Now. I learned about the link (cancer and Vit D3 deficiency) back in 2009 when my doctor clued me in and put me on Vit D3 and K2. People are so unaware but I think Big Pharma likes it that way so they can sell more pills.

You can get rickets from a vitamin-D deficiency.

Salmon, beef-liver, sardines......all good sources of vitamin-D.

Beef liver has a very small amount of vitamin D, it's not a "good" source of it (though it certainly is "a" source of it). Very few foods naturally contain vitamin D and most that do, don't contain much. Fatty fish are a reliable source though (such as salmon and sardines).

Dairy contains some, and D-fortified milk even more. In addition - if you're not concerned with carbs in your diet, commercial cereals are fortified with vitamin D and many other vitamins.

The sun is the #1 source of D.

Back to the OP though - a D deficiency can be serious, if it's severe. But a deficiency severe enough to cause rickets is very rare, and the deficiency (not the rickets) is easily treated with supplementation as prescribed by your doctor.

I saw a rheumatologist a few years ago and he said Vitamin D is more like a hormone than a typical vitamin and that it influences 30 different bodily functions. He tested mine and it was at 7, it's now around 30. It seems like he was right, a rash that a dermatologist could not diagnose is completely gone and I'm not having even 1/10th of the problems I had from Raynaud's.

It's astounding that so so many are deficient, I was a low 16 I think it was back in 2006 and got all the way to 80 and was feeling great, then it dropped with hip replacement surgery 40 pts and now I'm working my way back up and am at 53. I'd like to be at 80 again and feel like I did when I was there before.

It is a hormone vs a vitamin. Good that you are getting that D up.

This might sound like a stretch, but...I think Vitamin D saved my life.

I was in the darkest depression ever a few years ago and was looking for answers and couldn't seem to get them....but got informed maybe I should take Vitamin D or that I was deficient in it...and I started taking it, and it literally felt like it took me out of that extremely dark place. My energy levels turned around, my depression left me for the most part.

Got lazy on taking it again recently and felt "off" and I again realized I had laid off taking it for a small stretch there.

I really do feel like it is almost a miracle pill (I take usually a 2000 IU a day) for me.
