I have a male doctor that I go to but I'm having second thoughts. I'm thinking about using a female doctor. I'm in a 30s. Is this a non issue?
It would help us understand why you want a female doctor if you told us why a male doctor would bother you? Are you sexually attracted to men? Are you homophobic? Other than those two reasons I cannot fathom why you would prefer a woman doctor.
Some guys are bothered by the fact that they might get a spontaneous erection during a prostate exam (DRE). No, it doesn't mean you are gay.
No.. I'm more bothered by what seems like someone sticking their entire hand up my ass.
I'm actually more bothered by that than a testicular or penile exam.. Probably because I can actually see what is going on there.. I think that's probably at the root of the matter for me. I can see what's going on with one and not the other.
Male or female doctor.. It's uncomfortable either way.. But, if it needs to be done, that's the determining factor. If it needs to be done, i'll get over it.
The fear of "homoeroticism" is one reason many high schools don't require showers after PE now. You haven't lived until your 2nd Period 16 year old boys roll into class after a 75 minute class of full court basketball and no showers. Half of them are still sweating when they arrive. They also don't shower after football/soccer/basketball/baseball/wrestling matches/games. Nothing like a two hour bus ride home after a hard game covered in mud and blood.
If anyone has been in the military, you may go in modest but that gets squeezed out quickly.
When I had my cardiac misadventure a few months ago the surgical nurses were taking my clothes off as soon as I was off the ambulance and being wheeled to surgery to get stents installed.
I told them that if they were getting me naked I should at least know their names. They told me to shut up.
Mrs. NBP and I have had the same woman primary care doctor since she started her practice, nearly 30 years. I've had zero problem with modesty with her, including digital prostate exams. My urologist is a very young man and no problem there either. He replaced a senior doctor in the practice, both of whom have performed prostate biopsies on me. The third, and most recent, biopsy was done by a specialist. He was trained in using an ultrasound pinpointing questionable areas. There were three women nurses assisting on that one. Again, no issues.
The only reason I may hesitate to see a male doctor is if he has large fingers.
