Let's say you finally go to sleep at around 1am and have to get up at 5 or 7am

Sleep deprivation can cause all kinds of problems with every organ in your body. I have sleep apnea and developed many problems while that was undiagnosed. Be careful.

For me and with my aging years, I hurt more if I don't get enough good sleep. I have a great sleep combo that keeps me in good sleep.

Ive always been a very light sleeper. The wind, rain, the dog turning around etc contribute to my waking easily. Ive always gotten use to it. With this very old dog I have, Im always awake in the middle of thenight and usually cant get back to sleep. As I posted in the other thread about sleep, Ive taken to reading. Ive learned to value that quiet time with no tv, no phone, no computer etc. it works for me but isnt good for everyone.

Reading in bed has always put me to sleep in a pretty short time. I'd fall asleep, the book would fall and land open, right where I left off reading, into my face, and I'd go right on sleeping. My husband used to take pictures of me sleeping with that book over my face.

These days TV will put me to sleep too.

The older you get, the less sleep you NEED...you might still WANT it, but generally, you need less, as you age. And thank goodness, since hot flashes wake me every hour or so!

Weight gain, heart disease, edema, irritability, headaches & decreased reflex time. If it progresses into chronic sleep deprivation there can be symptoms of psychosis, such as auditory & visual hallucinations.

Editing to add: I’ve actually experienced all of the above without it progressing into the chronic phase. You should try 90 min cycles & that might help. If you only have from 1am-5am you may be better off with 2am-5am (2 cycles). Or 1am-4am. I had to do 2am-6am for 3 days straight this week & I’m a disaster right now. I personally get the most beneficial sleep between 4am-11am, which is, of course, unreasonable when you have kids.

Sleep is a big part of my long day. 24 hrs to fill and no more hobbies, done that route and sitting at the boob tube does not suit me. I sleep from 10:30 or so to about 8Am or so with wake ups for pee runs. I drink water even during the night, keeping hydrated is important.
