I think I am addicted to my computer and the Net. It's the first thing I do in the morning, what I do all day (on and off), the last thing I do at night and then even when I wake up I go online.
My computer crashed over the weekend and even though I have a warranty, I could not go the three or four weeks without one. Could you have gone three or four weeks? So I went and bought another one yesterday (cheapest one) just to get back online. I figure if they can fix the other then I'll just have two in case I'm ever in the position again. Ok, so I think I have a problem, but is it really a big deal? I'd venture to guess many on CD have my same problem. Or am I just rationalizing like an addict? I mean, it is more interesting than a lot of people IRL and there are some interesting things to read and it's better than watching TV.

I've gone months without one, when I couldn't afford internet. Not my favorite thing to do, but you do what you have to. Although when my computer broke two months ago, I went to all my relatives houses and rummaged through their old computer part collections (no one seems to ever throw anything out) and built something that would work for a few months until I bought a new one.
Anyhow, if you're addicted to your computer, you're in the company of millions of fellow addicts Don't worry so much.
as a kid growing up in the 80's and then in the 90's i was originally addicted to arcade and video games but as i got in my mid twenties around 2000 or so i got heavily into the internet and gave video games up.i also like to read quite a bit.having interests like these have kept me indoors quite a bit and out of trouble through the years.getting online has actually helped me in a couple of medical emergencies including one time my father was acting funny.looked up some of it online and realized he was showing symptoms of stroke.i also was prescribed lipitor in 2005 for bad cholesterol.came home and read the horror stories about it and threw the script in the trash and went and bought some fish oil which is much healthier and also does a better job.
I don't own a laptop. When we go on vacation, it's out of state, and I don't have computer access. My biggest concern when I'm away from home, is whether or not my cat is okay. Not whether or not the internet will miss me. If I'm home, and not employed, and have no computer access, I read a book or watch TV, and get outside the house and get fresh air, til I have access again.
I'm online all the time mostly because I'm home, not employed, and need interaction with other human beings. When I'm working, on vacation, or otherwise occupied outside the house, I have that interaction, and don't miss the computer all that much.
Well even if you are, at least it will not entail:
killing someone while using the computer (ie driving drunk) losing all your money (ie gambling) begging and stealing to support your habit (ie drugs)
If you are working ok and getting all your chores etc done, then you are just like the rest of us....only if it interferes with your life, health and future plans would there be a concern.
I do check it too a lot throughout the day, so you have lots of company. And even at night I sneak a peek if I am awake....so there

I am also an E-bay lover, possibly an addict. I LOVE to bid and win items. Its such a rush! I try to get things I really need, but find myself looking up things I don't need.
I like CD and giving my 2 cents on threads. I will always be on here!
I used to be addicted to FB and MySpace, but that has passed!!!
I could go a couple days without internet, no problem, but I would have to get online as soon as I got home!!
As long as we aren't neglecting things then I think it is ok..
I think it depends entirely on WHAT you're doing online and HOW you might possibly be damaging your life or the lives of others. I've seen things on the news such as a baby drowning in a bathtub because his mother was preoccupied with Farmville. Or kids becoming dehydrated because they won't stop playing their games long enough to get food and drink. Also, if you're eBaying when you should be paying your bills or losing all your money playing online poker -- those are serious problems. But if the things you do are things you might be doing in another way, just that you're doing them online now, I don't see that as detrimental.
My computer is engaged almost all day. I read the news when I get up. My work has to be done on a computer and I work at home. Then I socialize online because I live somewhere where I know very few people. Some might say I should make new friends, but why should I ignore my old ones when I can reach them online? I would probably be watching TV right now ... if there was something on TV worth watching at 10 p.m., but to my mind there isn't. So here I am opining about something, which can't be any more damaging than staring at a TV. I shop a lot online because I take care of my elderly mother and it's hard for me to go outside alone for long. (And I love staying out of the mall.) When I have insomnia, there REALLY is nothing on TV in Tucson except infomercials, so then I might engage HULU and watch a TV show I know I enjoy.
I had my computer access interrupted last year for two weeks and I survived just fine, so I wouldn't classify myself as an addict ... just someone who finds it more convenient to do things with a computer than the old-fashioned ways of doing the same thing (e.g.. reading a paper newspaper, working on a typewriter instead of a word processing program, bill paying with checks via snail-mail, or talking on the phone instead of via E-mail or IM). Improving on those examples is supposed to be the main convenience of 21st century living, so why criticize yourself for taking advantage of it?

I'm a computer-holic also. do the same as you. I feel like as long as I am getting everything done that I need to get done it's OK. There are certainly a lot worse addictions to have. Of course, I guess it all depends on exactly what websites one is addicted to - I am addicted to this one, for sure!
When I first got the Internet, I was an addict. Not anymore, it is the first thing I pretty much do in the morning.
But i'm not going to miss out on doing other things or miss work and family functions because of it..
