I swallowed a huge gulp of hot coffee. I also have flu like symptoms now: severe chills, swollen/ tender lymph nodes, still able to swallow but it hurts. Did I just happen to get the flu the same night? Or could this be a reaction to burns?

Only time or a doctor can answer that question. I do hope, however, that you dont make a practice of drinking really hot beverages, as it's well-known (check cancer.org and webmd.com) that can cause esophageal cancer.
